to be al Past Simple + verbo -ing

To be al Past Simple: forma affermativa
soggetto + to be al Past Simple + verbo –ing
I was reading |
you were reading |
he/she/it was reading |
we were reading |
you were reading |
they were reading |
Esattamente come abbiamo visto nella coniugazione di to be al Past Simple, anche nel Past Continuous alla forma affermativa non esiste la forma contratta!
I was studying
you were beginning
he was lying
we were travelling
La forma negativa del Past Continuous
Ripassa questo Step:
To be al Past Simple: forma negativa
Per la forma negativa del Past Continuous prendiamo sempre come riferimento la forma negativa del verbo to be al Past Simple:
soggetto + to be al Past Simple + not + verbo –ing
I was not reading | I wasn’t reading |
you were not reading | you weren’t reading |
he/she/it was not reading | he/she/it wasn’t reading |
we were not reading | we weren’t reading |
you were not reading | you weren’t reading |
they were not reading | they weren’t reading |

Were you reading? (Stavi leggendo?)
Yes, I was
Were you reading?
No, I wasn’t
